Every once in a while, you meet a person who makes you feel like you are a better person for having met him or her. I am going to take a moment to talk about someone and something that has so inspired me. In my last post, I revealed I have been having back troubles. My L-2 vertebrae still has a herniation. I am going tomorrow to get some additional CT Scans so I can have a complete picture of what is wrong with my back from the neck to my hips. After tomorrow, I feel like I will be able to tackle this problem with enthusiasm and vigor. I have met many people who have had this problem here in Odessa and who have an idea how to treat my condition. This knowledge has given me great hope that I will not be stricken with this problem for much longer. I do have to tell you the day-to-day pain has been almost unbearable. However, I have not lost my spirits. I have been truly inspired to continue working through the intense pain and have been able to keep a smile and positive attitude through this process.
Just three short weeks ago, I began watching a television show which has truly changed my point of view on my own life. As many of you know, I have lost about 20 kilograms (about 45 pounds) since the end of August. This figure has stayed steady as my eating habits slipped during the holiday season, and I haven’t been able to work out due to my back condition, I have had to make some adjustments to my food plan or diet to ensure that I do not start to put on weight again.
On the show "The Biggest Loser”, I am in the process of watching Season 4. I have been watching the show with a very special friend, and I told her in the first episode of the season that a little Korean girl named Kae was the biggest threat and this little girl was inspiring. Kae entered the program at 225 pounds. That is 102 kg. She is only 5’0″ tall which is only 152.5 centimeters. In less than 12 weeks, she lost over 30% of her total body weight.
That, in and of itself, was amazing. However, throughout the entire process, there were numerous instances of people being dishonest, or lazy, or misleading in order to "play the game” In case you are not familiar with this program, each week, a contestant is voted off of the show until there are only 4 left. And, then, the final four go home for 4 additional months to see how much more weight they could lose in an effort to take home the $250,000 grand prize. However, the strangest thing happened. Kae’s character and integrity shone through the program to such an extent that I feel like a better person just by having watched her. Her humility and work ethic are second to none. I feel as if I work as hard as anyone on Earth, but watching this little girl, I feel ashamed for not working hard enough. I inspire to be as good as she is as a competitor, and as a human being.
Wow! That is all I have to say today. Wow! I am grateful to have gotten the opportunity to watch her in action. I hope each of you can find someone who inspires you to be better in some aspect of your life.
