The monument "Bag". In the center of Sumy, on Voskresensky Street, near the cultural and art center "Sobor" a commemorative sign in honor of the usual bag was opened. Monument to students. The monument was opened on September 2, 2005 in the city. Three girls symbolize three Sumy universities, opposed to the union of Sumy universities.

Sumy History

Sumy territory was inhabited since the late Paleolithic period. Local tribes left after themselves archaeological monuments of the so-called Marjan culture. With the advent of iron (8th century BC), almost all of the territory was inhabited by the Scythians, farmers, and later the Slavic tribe of the Siverians. In the 9-10 century, it was part of Kievan Rus. 11-13 century the part of the Chernigov and Siversky principalities. In 1185 Novgorod-Siversky prince Igor Svyatoslavich came from the city of Putivl with his army in a campaign against the Polovtsians, described in the "Lay of Igor's Host." In the 13-14 centuriy the lands of modern Sumy depended on the Golden Horde. In the 60's. 14c., the western part of the lands was under the rule of Lithuania, the eastern part in the 17th-18th century, was part of the Sloboda Ukraine, on the territory of which there were Sumy and Akhtyrsky regiments. In the 1606-1607, on the territory there was an uprising led by I. I. Bolotnikov. Since 1802 the western lands of Sumy region became part of the Chernigov, Romenschina-Poltava provinces, the eastern lands (since 1797) - the Slobodsko-Ukrainian (since 1835 - the Kharkov) province. The modern territory of the city and region was finally formed in 1939.
