Lugansk city guide

Lugansk city is located in the heart of the picturesque steppes and plains, in the easternmost part of Ukraine. This city can be considered as a greatest project of Catherine the Great, and also of the Scottish engineer, Karl Gascoin. He was invited to explore hard coal and iron ore on the territory in the valley of the river Lugan. Later, he and his countrymen formed the backbone of the Lugansk plant, which was the first blast furnace in Ukraine. Thus began the history of the city, which changed its name twice.

The next stage in the development of the Luhansk region is connected with the creation of the Ukrainian line, which was supposed to serve as a defense against the attacks of the Turkic peoples.
